Historic Kingsley Avenue Streetscape
The Town of Orange Park selected a team of design professionals, including Castle Bay, to restore the Town’s most historic road. Kingsley Avenue, often referred as the Gateway to the St. Johns River, will implement “Complete Streets” standards featuring pedestrian friendly crosswalks and sidewalks, angled parking, storm water and utility improvements and the installation of a curbed landscape median. The streetscape also includes native and adapted plant species designed to provide color, historical value and low maintenance, while bricked crosswalks and proposed pedestrian level lighting will give the road a “Sense of Arrival.” A proposed pocket park at the terminus of Kingsley Avenue overlooking the St. Johns River will feature wooden scenic overlooks with open and expansive views of the river, historic site furnishings and a brick paver plaza which will provide a quiet place for visitors to enjoy the riverfront.
